PhD thesis on key technology for IDEALFUEL

October 2021

On 28 September 2021, IDEALFUEL researcher Dr. Panos Kouris (from partner Vertoro), successfully defended his PhD thesis with the title “Lignin Oligomers as a Renewable Resource for Fuels and Chemicals”.

The thesis describes the scientific background and key enabling technology used by Vertoro to extract lignin (polymers found in the structural material of plants and trees) from non-edible biomass such as sawdust and wood chips wastes, in the form of a crude lignin oil. This lignin oil is utilised in the IDEALFUEL project to produce renewable marine fuels.

A very big congratulations to Dr. Kouris on the impressive work!
