Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a research-driven university of international standing, where excellent research and excellent education go hand in hand. The focus is on a balanced approach towards education, research and valorization of knowledge in the areas of engineering science and technology. In this project two departments of the TU/e are participating:
1) Department Mechanical Engineering – Power and Flow Group
The Power and Flow group is headed by Prof.dr.ir. Niels Deen. The group focuses on clean and efficient combustion and process technology, to cater for fast-growing energy demands. On average the group employs 20 to 30 PhD students of which typically 10-20 are active in the field of combustion. The expertise in engine combustion is covered by associate professors dr.ir. Bart Somers (modelling, advanced concepts), dr. Nico Dam (laser- and high-speed diagnostics) and assistant professor dr.ir. N.C.J (Noud) Maes (spray combustion experiments and combustion concepts).
2) Department Chemical Engineering and Chemistry – Inorganic Materials & Catalysis Group
The Inorganic Materials & Catalysis Group at TU/e is headed by Prof. Emiel Hensen. The group investigates heterogeneous catalysts that are pivotal to clean and sustainable chemical conversion processes for the production of fuels and chemicals. On average the group employs 20 to 30 PhD students of which typically 10-20 are active in the field of the production of fuels. The expertise in fuel production is covered by TU/e Fellow Dr.ir. Michael Boot who was part-time assistant prof. until 2015. From 2016, he was promoted to Fellow “Designer Fuels”.
