2. Extraction of lignin from biomaterials

Objectives:
1. Set up a production line, optimize the process for the production of oligomers, delivery of oligomers to VERT;
2. Optimise pretreatment and and scale up of the lignin conversion in 300L reactor, establish a production line and optimise the process, and delivery of oligomers to VERT for the production of CLOs;
3. Optimize pretreatment of wood conversion to CLO in 300L reactor, establish a production line and optimize the process;
4. Produce CLO from Bloom oligomers in a 300L reactor.

1. Report on the setup of the production line and the optimisation of the process for the production of oligomers [BLOOM – Dec 2020]
The report describes the production line and optimisation possibilities of the process to produce oligomers. Especially, a standard protocol will be defined from biomass extraction to oligomer separation.

2. The_optimisation_of_the_pre-treatment_and_lignin_conversion_in_300L_reactor [BLOOM – Dec 2021]
The report presents optimized process conditions for large-scale production (300L) to yield the highest quality of lignin oligomers. The report will include overall results and scientific motivation related to process optimisation.

3. Report on the optimisation of the BLOOM lignin oligomers-to-CLO (CLO Process #1) process in 300L reactor [VERT – Oct 2022]This report will present a design of experiments (DOE), detail which process conditions lead to the highest yield of CLO, and provide a scientific motivation why such is the case.
